Revision Strategy: Spaced Repetition and Active Recall for UPSC

You read Laxmikanth's chapter on the President of India. You underlined key points. You made a summary. You felt confident. Three months later, you cannot remember the difference between Article 123 (Ordinance power) and Article 85 (Sessions of Parliament). You read it again. Three months later, you forget again. This cycle - read, forget, re-read, forget - is the single biggest inefficiency in UPSC preparation.

The solution is not to read more. It is to revise better. The Ebbinghaus Forgetting Curve shows that without active recall, we forget 50% of learned information within one hour and 90% within 30 days. When you get a question right, it moves to the next box (longer interval). When you get it wrong, it moves back to Box 1 (shorter interval). This ensures difficult items get more frequent review.

Active Recall Techniques for UPSC
