The UPSC Interview (Personality Test) carries 275 marks — equivalent to a whole GS paper. It can swing your final rank by 200+ places. The board tests not knowledge (already tested in Mains) but personality — clarity of thought, confidence, integrity, and social awareness.

The UPSC Interview (Personality Test) assesses the candidate's personality including intellectual qualities, social traits, and interest in current affairs. It is NOT a viva on your optional subject. The board members (Chairperson + 4–5 members) ask questions from:

Be Honest — Never bluff. "I don't know, sir" is acceptable. Bluffing ruins credibility.Listen Carefully — Answer WHAT is asked, not what you rehearsed.Structure Answers — In my opinion (position), because (reasoning), however (balance).Show Empathy — For social issues, show sensitivity (tribal rights, gender equity, poverty).Balance Confidence with Humility — Neither arrogant nor timid.Maintain Composure — Board may provoke (stress test). Stay calm and respectful.Body Language — Sit straight, maintain eye contact, natural hand gestures, smile.Dress Formally — Indian formal (suit/coat/sari/salwar kurta). Well-groomed.Prepare "Why Civil Services" — Most asked question. Have a genuine, convincing answer.Read Your DAF Completely — Every word. Anything you wrote can be asked.
