    2. Savings and investment: Lower dependency ratios increase household savings (the 'life-cycle hypothesis') — enabling higher capital formation.
    3. Innovation and entrepreneurship: A young population is more adaptable, mobile, and entrepreneurial — India's startup ecosystem (100,000+ DPIIT-recognised startups) is a direct beneficiary.
    4. Consumption: Young workers are consumers — a large working-age population drives domestic consumption, the main engine of India's growth.

    Challenges to Reaping the Dividend

    1. Skill gap: India's National Skill Development Mission (NSDM) aims to skill 400 million people by 2030, but quality remains poor. The India Skills Report 2024 found only ~50% of graduates are 'employable'. The mismatch between education outcomes and industry needs is the single biggest threat to the dividend.
    2. Health and nutrition: The NFHS-5 data shows 35% of children under 5 are stunted (chronic malnutrition) — a direct drag on future human capital. The 'Demographic Dividend' is meaningless without healthy workers.
